Best Bets: Top California Bars to Catch Your Favorite MLB Team on Opening Day

Ahh, a distinct combination of fresh cut grass, dirt, and peanuts fill the air, which can only mean one thing: baseball season is here. As baseball players around the nation are perfecting their swings, fans everywhere anxiously await the ceremonial first pitch signifying the beginning of the 2015 season. There is no better setting to shamelessly consume all the junk food you can get your hands on and heckle the opposing team with a giant foam finger than a day at the ballpark.

But sometimes, our favorite team is on the road or we just can’t make it the stadium, which leaves us with option 2, the local watering hole. Whether you are looking for a drink before the game or a place to post up and watch it, here are the top local bars around the state where you can watch your favorite California baseball team battle it out for the Pennant.

Los Angeles Angels | Angels Stadium

The Catch-A more highbrow restaurant and bar, this Anaheim landmark offers a special Game Day Menu during the season.

JT Schmid’s– Located just around the corner from the stadium, this microbrewery is every Angels fan’s haven.

Los Angeles Dodgers | Dodger Stadium

The Park Bar & Grill– Want a Dodger dog but can’t make the game? This is your go-to spot “over the hill.”

Busby’s West- Complete with beer pong, billiards, video games, and more this Santa Monica bar is your best bet to cheer along with fellow Dodgers fans.

Oakland A’s | The Coliseum

George & Walt’s– You’re sure to find plenty of green and yellow at this Rockridge establishment. Arrive early and try to score one of the plush recliners.

Ricky’s Sports Theatre & Grill– Once ranked the second best sports bar in the entire country, Ricky’s is sports central for Oakland Raiders fans, but during the spring and summer, it’s all about the A’s. And you’ll never miss any action – there are even TV’s in the bathrooms.

San Diego Padres | Petco Park

Attitude Sky Bar– With a rooftop view of Petco 22 stories up, this is best place to grab a brew and watch the Padres from afar, especially on fireworks night.

Bub’s at the Ball Park– Located at the edge of the Park this is a favorite among fans with inexpensive drinks, irresistible pickings, and free peanuts.

San Francisco Giants | AT&T Park

Just because the 2014 World Champion Giants are on the road doesn’t mean you can’t watch Opening Day at the Park. AT&T Park will be hosting an Opening Day Viewing Party. Gates open at 6pm and the first 3,000 fans will receive a free foam finger.

Public House– Attached to the ballpark, this place couldn’t be more convenient. Even if you don’t have tickets, you can still feel part of the scene by sporting your Giants colors.

The Brickyard– Situated in the heart of the Marina, this local favorite is your game day headquarters.
