How To: Throw a Hauntingly Haute Halloween Soirée

The Halloween countdown is officially on and this year we thought we would glam it up with some devilishly dashing style. Halloween has never been recognized for its particularly beautiful décor schemes so we’re kicking the traditional orange and black combo to the proverbial grave. We’re envisioning something a little more elegant—an affair that errs on the side of creepy chic to be exact.

We’ll show you how to craft a frightfully stunning Halloween party that simply screams perfection.

The Color Scheme

While black may be a no brainer, blend pops of ivory, greys, metallics, and natural elements to create dimension and a sense of mystery to your already eerie color palette. When all else fails, just repeat the mantra “orange is not the new black”. Here’s Mandy Kellogg Rye’s – aka Waiting on Martha – ridiculously elegant design for some inspiration.

The Ambiance

Nothing sets a ghostly atmosphere quite like candles galore. Up the spook factor by converting old wine bottles into candlestick holders like our friends at Style Me Pretty. For added drama, light the candles and let them melt a bit before your guests arrive and voilà instant haunted house vibe.

The Libations

Known as the black widow, this cocktail may have bite, but we promise you’ll shriek with delight. To make this delectable potion, you’ll need: 2 oz. blackberry juice, 1 oz. simple syrup and 1 oz. vodka and ice. Fill a highball glass with ice, add ingredients, stir and serve. Dress up your cocktail by dipping the glass in purple-colored sugar and adding a black and white striped paper straw and fresh blackberries. Click here for the full recipe from DIY Network.

The Killer Desert

Although we’re axing any cliché decorations, a themed dessert will bring a touch of classic Halloween fun without going over the top. We are simply dying over this creepy, crawly Marshmallow Cobweb Cake from The Cake Blog. Follow this simple tutorial to DIY.
