LEGENDS of La Cienega: Spotlight on Ryan Brown

The most anticipated design event slated to descend upon Los Angeles next month, LEGENDS 2016, will illustrate the overarching theme, One-of-a-Kind, providing 60+ designers the opportunity to showcase their interpretation of the uniqueness of design. Attracting gifted design and VIP tastemakers from across the country and around the world, it’s only natural to begin to ask, who are the legends behind LEGENDS 2016? Each week leading up to the event, we’ll sit down with one of the esteemed designers who will be illuminating the streets of LCDQ to get a behind-the-scenes look at the one-of-a-kind event, and more.

Without further ado, let’s meet Ryan Brown, founder of Brown Design Group.

BDG---PortraitTell us a little bit about how you entered the world of design.

I started in design when I was a kid. My father was a custom homebuilder and would take me to job sites and then to beautiful old homes he admired in Santa Barbara. When I was old enough I started buying fixers and selling them, and I actually ended up on the show “Flipping Out” for three seasons from 2007 to 2010. It’s kind of interesting how as an adult I developed a reputation for breathing life back into old homes and creating living spaces that combine vintage and sometimes weathered antiques with contemporary elements. With my husband and business partner, Diego Monchamp, we do it all at Brown Design Group, from ultra-modern to midcentury modern, contemporary to traditional.

How would you describe your style of design?

Hands-on. Our style is a mixture of contemporary and vintage elements. We’re sophisticated, but not stuffy. We create approachable, functional, and livable interiors that wear well for years ahead.

What window will you be decorating?
Marc Phillips Decorative Rugs

How long have you been associated with LCDQ/LEGENDS?
It’s our first year and we’re very excited to be here!

What can you tell us about your window display? What inspired you?
Our window design is inspired by Mother Nature, which fits into the overall LEGENDS theme this year, “One-of-a-Kind.” Nature truly is one of a kind!

Which LEGENDS event are you most looking forward to?

I’m looking forward to attending as many of the events as I can! We haven’t been to LEGENDS before, so it will be great to check out as much as possible.

Tune in next week to meet renowned designer Jeff Andrews!
