Philips Hue

Philips Hue

Philips Hue is one of the veterans of smart home technology. Their system is built around a wireless hub that links to your web-connected devices, and can even answer to voice commands from Siri. Color changing bulbs can be customized to your mood – the perfect backdrop for a party, movie night or supporting your favorite team. Other Hue products include floodlight bulbs, LED light strips, ambient light fixtures and budget-friendly white bulbs.

GE Link + Wink

General Electric and startup Wink have an affordable solution to smart lighting. Just like Hue, a wireless hub lets all your bulbs and devices talk to each other. Bulbs are available in both traditional sizes as well as floodlights, with a soft white glow that can be controlled with the Wink app. By integrating with Wink these bulbs can be part of a bigger smart home system of lighting, security, small appliances and more.

Two Bulb White Starter Kit, $50.

Lifx

Lifx bulbs forego the hubs of Wink and Hue, letting you switch to smart lighting without any extra hardware. They are available in both white and color changing models, each available in a traditional size and a BR30 floodlight. Lifx’s biggest advantage are their bright and vivid colors, with light output comparable to a 75-watt traditional bulb.

Single Color Bulb, $60.
